Adrian Peterson Traded to the Cardinals

If you’ve been paying attention to football this season, you could have seen this move coming. The Saints have traded Adrian Peterson, who they just signed this offseason, to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional draft pick according to ESPN. Peterson was at Gillete for a workout with the Patriots this offseason, but ultimately ended up choosing New Orleans. Much like it didn’t work out down there, it’s more than likely he wouldn’t have ended up making it in New England as well.

This has by far been AP’s least productive season of his carrer, with just 27 carries for 81 yards and no touchdowns. He is also virtually useless in the passing game, which is a problem if you’re a Saints running back. Since Sean Payton has been in New Orleans, they’ve always had a lead back who can at least catch out of the backfield. Adding that onto the fact that he isn’t the dynamic runner he used to be, AP served zero purpose on this team. And with the emergence of rookie Alvin Kamara, the writing was pretty much on the wall.

He now will be heading to Arizona, where the situation doesn’t get a whole lot better. While the opportunities will be there for him in Arizona more than they were in New Orleans, the production probably will not be. It’s safe to say we’ve seen the last of a running back who at one point in his career was truly sensational to watch.
