A Jam Packed Weekend

For the first time since both the NHL, NBA and WNBA seasons came to end, this weekend offers great entertainment from the sports world. It’ll be tough to decide what to watch. So here I am, with my top picks this weekend to help all of us out in deciding what to watch this weekend.

Tonight (Friday), the obvious choice is Game 3 of the World Series. Baseball fans are drooling at this pitching matchup for tonight. Walker Buehler and Charlie Morton is the pitchers duel we all need to see after an explosive first two games. In fact, this probably will only be the only pitchers duel of this series. Why? Both these pitchers are that good. Last time we saw Buehler, he went six innings, gave up seven hits and struck out six batters and didn’t give up a run. When Morton took the mound last, he lasted five innings, gave up two hits, and struck out six and he also didn’t give up a run. Again, this is a going to be a pitchers duel so expect this game to be low scoring.

Saturday is more tricky in deciding what to watch. Yes, there’s college football, but there’s also UFC. Yes, UFC 254 is on Saturday and has an early start time. At 2PM UFC 254 will begin and the main event features arguably the best fighter in all of UFC. Fans are being given a treat in seeing Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje go to war against eachother. Khabib is looking to stay perfect and Gaethje is looking to avoid his third loss in his career. The current favorite is Khabib.

If UFC isn’t your cup of tea, then it’s looking like another college football Saturday. This Saturday, the Big Ten begins their season. All eyes will be on Justin Fields and the fifth ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Fields was one of the very vocal players this offseason pleading to have a season. Originally, the Big Ten decided to postpone the season until the spring, but after pressure from Big Ten families, coaches and players, the Big Ten reversed it’s decision and the season was announced. Justin Fields is expected to challenge Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence for the Heisman Trophy this year. Fields and the Ohio State Buckeyes being their season against Nebraska.

Other than Ohio State, the other Big Ten team to keep an eye on are the 18th ranked Michigan Wolverines. This is a life or death season for coach Jim Harbaugh. Since taking over, Michigan has gone 47-18 which isn’t bad. The problem with that record is that there are no college football playoff appearances. If Michigan fails to make the playoff again, or, has any bad losses, it’s a strong possibility that Harbaugh will be fired. Michigan begins their season against the 21st ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers in primetime.

On Sunday, there are only three matchups worth watching in the NFL. The first one features a battle of unbeaten teams. The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to the Tennessee Titans where both teams are aiming to stay perfect. Ben Roethlisberger brings his arsenal of weapons against a surprisingly good Tennessee defense and hopes to shut down that defense quickly. Chase Claypool so far has been one of the best offensive rookies this season and it looks like that once again the Steelers struck gold in picking a Wide Receiver in the second round. However, Tennessee will unleash Derrick Henry on the great Steelers defense, and Henry will look to run all over this defense as he has all season against all other opposing defenses.

Jimmy Garoppolo makes his return to New England. This will be the first time he faces the Patriots since being traded. The 49ers are coming off of a bounce back win against the LA Rams and the Patriots are coming off of a very disappointing loss against the Denver Broncos. This game, Cam Newton needs to step up in. Newton and offensive Josh McDaniels took some heat this week about the play selection and play style in that loss against Denver. In general, fans are starting to become annoyed with the run heavy offense. Fans are hoping to see Cam throw the ball more this week against a banged up 49ers team. Yes, the 49ers still haven’t fully recovered from all those injuries they suffered while playing the Jets and Giants.

Finally, Sunday (and the weekend) wraps up with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. Seattle looks to remain unbeaten against this Arizona team that is coming off of a huge win against the Dallas Cowboys. Russell Wilson looks to continue to be the MVP favorite whereas Kyler Murray looks to remain hot. If Wilson continues to perform at the level he has all season, Seattle shouldn’t have much of an issue. However, the defense will have their hands full. Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins have been an issue for opposing defenses all year long. Plus, it looks like Kenyan Drake has finally woke up. This should be a great game, and a great way to end the weekend.
