OPENING DAY IS TOMORROW!! As you can tell by all the caps I am pretty excited for Opening Day to finally be here. This is my last of the division predictions. I saved what I think is the best division in all of baseball for last, the National League East. You can check out my other articles here. The Mets got a whole lot better this offseason, the Braves are the Braves and have another year of experience under their belts, and the Nationals have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball. Look out for a lot of fun when it comes to the NL East. I believe 1-3 could easily be switched in any order. The Phillies are also really good if they stay healthy and the Marlins made the playoffs in 2020. I am going to give records based on 162 games.
1. New York Mets 92-70
The Mets had probably the biggest trade in the offseason landing Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco. That gives the Mets a true superstar to build around and contend for a championship. Also, Carrasco gives the Mets another great arm to add to their rotation. DeGrom is one of the if not THE best pitcher in all of baseball. Marcus Stroman is going to eat innings. James McCann will be a great leader behind the plate. It is hard picking against the Braves, who were 1 win away from the World Series last season. But I truly think this is the Mets season to get back the NL East.
2. Atlanta Braves 91-71
Like I said it is hard to pick against the Braves. I believe this will be a dog fight to the very end with the top 3 teams. The Braves choked away a 3-1 lead in the NLCS to the Dodgers. But I believe that only fuels the fire for the young Braves. Ronald Acuña Jr is going to win a MVP or 2 in his career. He could be a 40/40 guy. Getting Marcell Ozuna back is also huge for the Braves. Ian Anderson could pitch well enough to win the NL Rookie Of The Year. The Braves are going to be good for a long time, but I am giving it to the Mets.
3. Washington Nationals 89-73
I said it before, 1-3 can be changed in any order. The Nationals are going to have a big bounce back year in 2021. Their pitching staff might be the best in all of baseball. Max Scherzer has won 3 Cy Youngs, Stephen Strasburg is a World Series MVP, and Jon Lester has 3 World Series rings. Also, having the best hitter in all of baseball helps in Juan Soto. Soto could mess around and hit .350 with 40 homeruns. There is nothing that man cannot do with a bat and he is only 22 years-old.
4. Philadelphia Phillies 83-79
The Phillies have all the talent in the world but just need to stay healthy. Their bullpen is what scares me. If they can get production out of the bullpen they could make a run at the Wild Card. Aaron Nola is an ace and will show that again in 2021. Bryce Harper is one of the best players in the league. The Phillies will be better in 2021.
5. Miami Marlins 81-81
The Marlins made the playoffs in 2020. Yes you read that right. It did help that it was only a 60 game season, but that does not take away from it. Also, the Marlins beat the Cubs in the Wild Card series. The Marlins have a mix of young talent and veteran guys. That just do not have enough talent to truly contend in the NL East. But they will make it interesting for the other teams in the division.
The NL East is the best division in all of baseball. I am so excited to see regular season games come back tomorrow! Look out for 2 articles a week from me going forward for the baseball season. Check out Legends Lingo and see who our new co-host is next week!
