2021-2022 Champions League Group Stage Matchups We Want To See
The Champions League Group Stage draw takes place tomorrow. I am already beyond excited to see what the group stage draw looks like. Looking forward to seeing what the groups look like and what the group of death looks like. We will find all of this out tomorrow at Noon Eastern Standard time. Until then let’s go crazy on some matchups that we would like to see in the group stage.
Group Stage Matches That I Want
Juventus vs Sporting CP
This is a huge one because Ronaldo going up against his first ever club would be much watch television. Don’t get me wrong I think Juventus would win easily, but Ronaldo facing his team he grew up playing with as a youth would be a must watch game especially if they play Sporting CP. I hope that this draw works out in this favor because I would love to see Cristano play against his old club.
Bayern Munich vs PSG
The rematch of the 2020 Champions League Final would be an interesting group stage matchup. Both teams have new managers, and look different from that UCL Final. PSG added Messi, Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos and others. While Bayern added Dayot Upamecano to bolster their defense. If these two teams met twice in the group stage, I would expect so much of hard fought soccer from both sides here. PSG with a point to prove about how good they are with this group that they put together. Bayern is looking to bounce back after their exit from the Champions League by PSG last season as well.
Villarreal vs Manchester United
The final from the Europa League last season would be a very interesting group stage matchup. We all know how the Europa League Final 2021 played out, but to see these two teams got at it twice in the group stage would be fantastic. Manchester United went out and spent this summer due to this team not being able to get the job done. This loss still haunts some of the United players to this day. I think these two teams lining up against one another twice in the group stage would be a MUST WATCH scenario.
Manchester City vs Barcelona
Manchester City vs Barcelona would be a huge draw for the group stage. Having a guy like Sergio Aguero going up against his former club would be a ratings galore. These two teams are both on different paths at the moment, but if they were to meet up boy would fireworks come from it. City has this dominant roster from top to bottom, while Barcelona had to let their franchise player go due to a La Liga rule. So for me this is must watch for two reasons. Obviously the first is the Aguero vs his former club aspect. The second is the name value of both clubs at the moment would be huge ratings for the Champions League.
