2 Ups and 3 Downs from the Bills-Patriots Game
The New England Patriots suffered their second straight loss to the Buffalo Bills Sunday 33-21. With the loss, the Patriots are now 9-6 as they enter the final two weeks of the season. There was a lot of bad that came out of the loss. However, there were a few good things we can be happy about in defeat. So let’s take a look at two ups and three downs from the Bills and Patriots game on Sunday.
Up: Damien Harris
During the Bills and Patriots game, it was evident that the best player on the Patriots was Damien Harris. Harris was the only source of offense the Patriots had Sunday afternoon. He rushed for 103 yards on 18 carries for three touchdowns. He literally was the only one who scored on Sunday for the Patriots. The Patriots ran the ball considerably well against the Bills the second time around. Harris was the leader of the pack and it was clear on Sunday when he balled out.
Down: Myles Bryant
Myles Bryant has a horrific game for the Patriots on Sunday. He was assigned to cover Isaiah McKenzie during the game and McKenzie had a field day. Keep in mind, the Bills were already down Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis due to COVID reasons. McKenzie went off for 11 receptions, 125 yards, and a touchdown reception. You simply cannot let that happen. Bryant was getting beat all day and it showed. It’s unfortunate because remember, Bryant made the final play to secure the win in Buffalo. Oh well, it happens!
Up: Jakobi Meyers
On the wide receiver end, Jakobi Meyers was the only one to get things going when the Patriots needed it the most. Meyers finished the game with six receptions for 59 yards. The wide receiver out of NC State had some nice receptions and timely ones at that. He had the fourth down reception to set up a Patriots score to get the game to one possession. Meyers continues to prove to be a dependable receiver in this Patriots offense.
Down: The Defensive Line
The whole defensive line had a dud of a game on Sunday. They didn’t get a whole lot of pressure on Josh Allen. Allen was able to have his way with the Patriots defense with three touchdown passes. It was just one of those games where the Bills made a big play when they needed it most. It was truly nauseating. The defense as a whole was bad. But it starts at the line of scrimmage. If the defensive line steps up and puts more pressure on Allen, it’s a different game. I know Allen is mobile and can scramble out of the pocket. But force him to make a mistake. He didn’t. That’s one of the reasons the Bills won on Sunday.
Down: Mac Jones
Mac Jones did not play well for the second game in a row. He missed some throws that he normally makes. It seemed like he was out of sync with some of his receivers on certain passes. It is what it is for the rookie out of Alabama. Remember, he is STILL a rookie. He’s played very well for the most part this season. But 14/32 for 145 yards and two interceptions isn’t going to do it. Mac is lucky because he has the Jaguars next week. That can be the game he gets back on track before a huge season finale in Miami.
In Conclusion
The division is basically gone now. Only way it is back in reach is if the Falcons can upset the Bills in Buffalo in week 17. But I don’t see that happening. Take care of business against Jacksonville and Miami, make the playoffs. Put the Bills game in the rear view mirror and get back on track in week 17. #ForeverNE
