Mike Zimmer was brutally honest in the Vikings post game press conference when asked about rookie quarterback Kellen Mond. Following the Vikings 37-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Zimmer was in no mood to talk about who would start at quarterback next week against the Bears. Zimmer gave a savage answer when asked if the team was going to give Mond a look next week.

Mond played for a three-play series where he nearly threw an interception on third down. The rookie who was drafted in the third-round this year was subbed in for Sean Mannion who had cramps in his hands. Mond completed two of three passes for 5 yards.

The Vikings are going to fall short of making the playoffs and will finish under .500 this season.
Some might read into Zimmer’s cold but brutal comments on Mond as an indictment on the rookie’s future with the team. On the flip side, Zimmer is on the hot seat in Minnesota and coming off a tough loss to the Packers, he might not have fully digested his quarterback situation for next week.
Kirk Cousins missed this week due to COVID-19 and it’s unknown if he’ll start next week in the season finale.
There could be discord between Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman. Zimmer’s lack of commitment to Mond in the post-game press conference could be a way to take a shot at his GM.
What’s clear is the Vikings head coach has no confidence in Mond and if Zimmer is going to remain in Minnesota, Mond’s days could be numbered, regardless of being drafted this season.

Ultimately, it appears Zimmer is on the outs with the Vikings and that loss to Green Bay solidified that thought. Minnesota has missed the postseason the last two years, Mond failed to show development this season and Cousins is set to earn $45 million next year.
