It seems that the next head coach of the UNC Tar Heels will come from inside the family.
Hubert Davis will take the reigns from Roy Williams after the coaching legend retired last week.
Hubert Davis: “I’m 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 of being your new men’s basketball coach for the University of North Carolina.”#CarolinaFamily pic.twitter.com/Lev1CwyTQD

Who is Hubert Davis
Hubert Davis played for North Carolina under Dean Smith and has been an assistant under Roy Williams for 9 seasons.
Hubert is someone who knows what UNC is about. He knows the culture.
He has also watched for years as one of the best to ever do it, Williams, continued to coach at the top of his profession.
Hubert Davis is a perfect representation of Carolina Basketball at every level, and is tied to both Michael Jordan & Pat Riley. He sacrificed to come home to Chapel Hill, and I’ll give him my full support if he’s the next Head Coach at North Carolina.

Hubert also spent 12 seasons in the NBA and shared a court with the GOAT himself, MJ.
With support from the school, former players, and Williams himself, this was a no brainer for UNC.
Analysis
This is a move many expected and makes sense for the Heels.
This, as they always have done, keeps it inside the family. The tradition continues.
Long tabbed to be a contender for the role, it makes sense.
We don’t know how successful the stint will be, but he was one of a few contenders for the role that actually made sense.
This will allow for Carolina to continue business as usual, and maintain a strong recruiting pipeline and classic culture.
Congrats to Hubert on the promotion and congrats on 33 fantastic years of coaching from an all-timer, in Roy Williams.
