BASEBALL IS COMING BACK BABY!!!…well not officially yet, but one can hope, right? MLB, once again, came out with a possible plan to get the 2020 season up and running. It involves breaking the 30 teams up into three ten-team divisions.
West Division
Talk about an ELECTRIC division! You have the team that cheated their way to a World Series title, the team they cheated out of a World Series title, and if that wasn’t good enough, they top it off with the best player in the league. Coming out of the gate, the Dodgers are heavy World Series favorites, that’s if their manager doesn’t get in their way first. Yes, I think Dave Roberts is an awful manager you can bash me all you want, but I’ll save that for a different article. The Angels are a team the entire MLB is waiting for to be a good team. They finally have enough talent, but will their pitching hold up? The A’s should once again be a good team, but…its the A’s. Anyways, If this happens and MLB runs with this design, that West Division is going to be filled with unbelievable entertainment!
Central Division
To me, this division is loaded with teams that have the potential to be unbelievable, but no one knows precisely how good they will be. On paper, the Braves have to be the clear cut winner in this division, but they will have legit competition along the way. The White Sox seemed to have added every free agent they could this past off-season. Pair that with a young core that emerged over the last two seasons, they could find their way back into the playoffs and be a legit force. The Twins, Reds, and Brewers are all right in the mix talent-wise, and I love every second of it. Then there is the Red Birds. The Cardinals have so many young flame-throwing arms that just blow hitters away. Pair that with Goldschmidt and Matt Carpenter leading the way offensively; don’t sleep on the Cardinals!
East Division
Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Phillies, and the reigning World Series champion Nationals all paired in the same division. UNREAL! Red Sox, Phillies, and Mets all have something to prove this year, as everyone has seemingly written them off as just average teams. That means there is going to be a lot of passionate baseball games being played. Also, can’t forget about the young guns killing it up North of the border. Biggio, Guerrero, and Bichette are all names that are linked to baseball royalty. Well, all of their kids are now in the Show and play on the same team. Last year all three of them showed that the bright lights didn’t scare them off. If anything, they loved them! Pitching will be the question for the Blue Jays because they will score some runs for years to come.
What Does This Mean?
If this proposal goes through and baseball can be played, I love the idea of mixing the divisions up. Each division has high entertainment value. I also think regardless of putting fans in the stands or not, have the players and umps mic’d up. Major League Baseball has a very rare opportunity to try some experimental things up to rejuvenate the sport for the younger generations. Having the mic’s on the players and umps will do just that! I’m praying for baseball to be back in 2020 and hope this is the division structure. Come on, Manfred, work to get baseball back SAFELY, and once you have accomplished that, bring yourself to this article and give the people what they want. MIC’D UP PLAYERS!!!
