College Football Roundup: Bowl Season

college football playoff trophey

The time of the year where nearly every single day we see a new bowl game we’ve never heard of.  With such classics as the Sun Bowl.  The Cheez-It Bowl.  The Taxslayer Bowl.  And the oh so popular Idaho Potato Bowl.  Tis the season for wasted games so that coaches can boost their resumes and try to earn more salary.  Welcome to bowl season.

College Football Playoff Top 25

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Georgia
  6. Ohio State
  7. Michigan
  8. UCF
  9. Washington
  10. Florida
  11. LSU
  12. Penn State
  13. Washington State
  14. Kentucky
  15. Texas
  16. West Virginia
  17. Utah
  18. Mississippi State
  19. Texas A&M
  20. Syracuse
  21. Fresno State
  22. Northwestern
  23. Missouri
  24. Iowa State
  25. Boise State

No surprise in the top three with Alabama, Clemson, and Notre Dame.  However the fourth spot came down to a tough decision.  Go with a one loss conference champion — or a two loss non conference champion?  On the surface, it may seem easier to go with Oklahoma, the one loss conference champion.  But the way that Georgia played against Alabama in the SEC was nothing short of impressive.  Sadly though, for the second year in a row Georgia blew a lead against the Tide.

College Football Playoff Semifinals

12/29 Orange Bowl 8 p.m. ESPN (1) Alabama vs. (4) Oklahoma

12/29 Cotton Bowl 4 p.m. ESPN (2) Clemson vs. (3) Notre Dame

Alabama looks to defend it’s crown but will have to put up points as Oklahoma is the top scoring team in the country.  Alabama is second.  Although, with Oklahoma playing in the “defense is optional” Big 12, there is no doubt that defense will fold.  Expect a lot of points in this one and a probable Alabama win.  Meanwhile Clemson looks to reclaim the national title with one of the nations top running back in Travis Etienne.

They’ll take on a rather interesting Notre Dame team.  They aren’t a conference champion and played a rather weak schedule this year.  As a matter of fact, they’re undefeated season almost ended in game one if it wasn’t for a Shea Patterson fumble.  Notre Dame won’t wow you, but they don’t really have many weaknesses.  It’ll be interesting to see how they’ll play against a high flying offense like Clemson
