The Celtics Finish Their Road Trip 1-2…Time to Panic?

Remember the five guys up above? The five guys that were going to be the leaders of the Celtics and take them to new heights in 2018-2019? Yeah…that hasn’t happened yet if you’ve been watching the games. Some of us have been playing very close attention too.

The Celtics lost to the Spurs last night 120-111, dropping their record to 21-15. As Celtics fans, we are very disappointed by this because we expected them around the 26-10 or 27-9 range. The Celtics currently sit at 5th in the Eastern Conference standings and have for sure had a very disappointing start to their season. All you have to do is look at this stat that happened against the Celtics last night to tell you how their season has gone thus far.

That’s right, the Celtics gave up 46 points in the 3rd quarter. 46! You’d be happy if your favorite NBA team scored that in a half, forget a quarter. The Celtics also lost the first game of their road trip to the Houston Rockets 127-113 before bouncing back from a 19 point deficit to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 112-103. But is it really time to panic yet? Short answer, no!

This Celtics team will be just fine. Kyrie Irving is doing Kyrie Irving like things. He’s averaging 23 points a game along with 7 assists and seems to make highlight type plays every single night. However last night, he was hit in the eye and could be questionable for the Celtics upcoming game against the Timberwolves to start their four game home stand.

For the short term, this is the last thing the Celtics wanted with Minnesota, Dallas, Brooklyn, and Indiana coming into town. But in the long term, it won’t mean a thing. Yes, they are struggling at the current moment to get any sort of momentum consistently going. But, here is the bottom line.

The Celtics are a very good team with loads of talent and depth. They have proven they can beat teams like Toronto, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia. They also haven’t hit upon their full stride yet, which is extremely dangerous for other NBA teams to think about.

But until then Celtics fans, take it one game at a time. Don’t think ahead, and don’t dwell on the past.

Start with a win against a decent Timberwolves team. Then, hopefully you can win a few more on the home stand and start a second half surge that will have all of us laughing about their struggles in the first half of the season. Rest easy Celtics fans, the journey is just beginning!
