The 2019 Clover Report: Week 2

The season opener was a huge success for the Celtics as they hope its the start of a magical year. But there was no rest for the Cs as they traveled across the border to take on division rival and likely number one threat, Toronto Raptors. The game lived up to the hype as the two titans traded blows and went back and forth. But the Raptors put their foot on the Celtics’ throat and in the final two minutes, won 113-101. Kawhi Leonard led the way as he finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Every Celtic starter scored double digests in which Kyrie scored 21 points and dished out 6 assists.

Next up, the Celtics faced another division opponent in the New York Knicks. Since it was the 2nd night of a back to back, Gordon Hayward sat as he continued to rehab his leg. Considering Kristaps Porzingis won’t play until January, this game was a bit too close for comfort. Luckily the Celtics pulled out a 103-101 win on the road. Jayson Tatum iced the game in the final minutes and finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

The last game of the week came against the Orlando Magic back at home. While Gordon Hayward returned, Aaron Baynes was out due to a pulled hamstring. Going into this game, this should have been an easy one. The Magic upset the Celtics though, 93-90 in what was easily the worst loss of the year. The Celtics were extremely sloppy and were terrible shooting from 3 (9 for 40). This appears to be a classic case of underrating your opponent which tends to get great teams. Hopefully, this is a one-time thing for this Boston Celtics team. 2-2
