Red Sox Outlast Dodgers, Go Up in World Series 1-0

Last night in game 1 of the 2018 World Series, the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 at Fenway Park to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

The game didn’t go as many expected. Aces Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale were both subpar. Not the pitchers we were used to seeing. They both went 4+ innings, Sale giving up 3 earned while Kershaw gave up 5 earned.

Despite the starters being very lackluster, this was a really good game to watch. It was tightly contested throughout, that is until Eduardo Nunez of all people came off the bench in the 7th inning to blow the game open.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora used Nunez to pinch hit for 21-year-old Rafeal Devers with lefty Alex Wood coming in for LA, and he proceeded to hit a 3-run-homer on the very first pitch. It was honestly pretty unbelievable.

The Red Sox then had gained all the momentum and shut Los Angeles down from there. Nathan Eovaldi and Craig Kimbrel came in the 8th and 9th innings and were flawless (thank god because I can’t handle another Kimbrel meltdown).

The Sox look to build off this performance tonight when they matchup David Price with Los Angeles starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, as they try to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
