Patriots v.s Colts Recap

The Pats matched up with the Colts on Thursday night football this week. Everything seemed to go as planned this week. The Pats are back op over .500 at 3-2 and after the Dolphins lose to the Bengals they’ll be back on top of the AFC East.

Man the offense looked like it was getting back to normal this week. Yeah sure they did play a very beat up Colts team, but they got the job done. Sony Michel has looked like a running back that they haven’t had in years. He was finding open lanes, and dropping his shoulder to get through tacklers. James White dominated in the passing game and looks like Brady’s go to target. Edelman was back in full form. It looked like the 4 weeks off did him some good, and he had no problems cutting and making things happen with his feet. On top of that, Gronk played through an injury and looked solid, and Josh Gordon has already found himself in the end zone as a part of this team. It was a damn good touchdown too. The one concern continues to be Chris Hogan. He has started to look like he’s dropped in Brady’s trust circle. He seems to be maybe the 5th option in this offense behind even Phillip Dorsett. That is gonna hurt his chances big time at the end of this season of getting a big contract.

The defense was the complete opposite of the offense. It looked ugly. The biggest bright spots were the guys that were missing from week 3. Pat Chung and Trey Flowers combined for a huge sack early. Chung was all over the field like he usually is, making tackles and getting an interception. The pass rush for most of the game was not great. Through the second and third quarter Andrew Luck had a lot of time to throw the ball. This lead to Devin McCourty looking silly all game. Eric Ebron looked like the second coming of Tony Gonzalez in that game. He has hands made of bricks but he was catching everything thrown his way and McCourty didn’t do too much to stop him. That is a big concern going forward against a team like Kansas City. Gilmore and Harmon seemed like they were not on the same page on crossing routes again. Jason McCourty and Jonathan Jones looked solid though. It’s a wonder if this secondary will be any better once Eric Rowe comes back. One positive is that the run defense did not surrender anything big to a team with no running game. Things have seemed better since Hightower was moved to the inside of the defense.

Next week is going to be the real test to see if this team is back to their old ways. These were a good few wins to get back on track, but the Chiefs are no joke.
