College Football Week 1 AP Rankings
With each day that passes we are getting closer and closer to the beginning of college football. While there are some games this weekend, the real action starts next week. With that in mind, I’d thought we could take a look at the first rankings of the year. According to the associated press here are the teams ranked for week 1 of the 2017 season:
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Florida State
- USC
- Clemson
- Penn State
- Oklahoma
- Washington
- Wisconsin
- Oklahoma State
- Michigan
- Auburn
- LSU
- Stanford
- Georgia
- Louisville
- Florida
- Miami
- South Florida
- Kansas State
- Virginia Tech
- West Virginia
- Texas
- Washington State
- Tennessee
Now let me tell you this. Some of these selections are spot on and some of them are complete crap. Lets start with the ones that are perfect. Obviously Alabama deserves to be number 1. They have the best coach and the best recruits so there is no arguing that. I think USC is in a good spot at number 4. They have the potential, they have the QB its just a matter of can they beat the good teams and can they win the PAC 12? I also think the AP got Auburn and Florida right. Auburn has high expectations with sophomore transfer QB Jarrett Stidham. If he can pick up their system they have a chance to make some noise. Auburn finished 8-5 last year with a crappy QB. Keep your eye on Auburn in week 2 when they have to take on Clemson at Memorial Stadium. That will be a big test for Auburn.
Now lets take a look at where the AP got it wrong. Ohio State at number 2? Really? They’re going to be good don’t get me wrong but they had a lot of issues on the offensive side of the ball. They have an early test in week 2 against Oklahoma so that once again will be a good measuring stick for them. In my book I have Florida State at number 2 but they might not be there for long. The College GameDay crew will be in Atlanta week 1 for FSU vs Alabama. I can’t wait to watch this game. That is going to be a fun one. Anyways, the other team the AP got wrong is Texas. That is absolute dog crap. And yes you may think I’m saying this because they’re A&M’s rival but in all honesty Texas hasn’t had a decent team since Colt Mccoy. They have a new coach in Tom Herman but I do not see them having any impact in the awful division that is the BIG 12.
Nick’s Bonus A&M Take
Freaking Texas is ranked. That’s hilarious. That’s like saying the Browns are making the playoffs. Texas is trash. Listen people I’m already going to tell you what is going to happen with A&M week one. We’re going into UCLA on a Sunday night (September 3rd so don’t bother trying to get in contact with me that day) and we are going to win 69-0. I bet Steve Santoro’s movie credibility on that game. A&M’s real first test of the season will be against Arkansas. I am not worried about UCLA at all. Put your seat belt on and get locked and loaded because its going to be a great season for college football.
