There is no safe way for sports to happen given the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19. Social distancing is impossible to maintain while playing sports, especially contact sports.
It’s Not Going Anywhere
Coronavirus isn’t going anywhere. Even if Donald Trump said if we don’t test, it’ll go away. I don’t think that’s how it works. It’s not a bully. If you ignore it it won’t find a new target.
Reports came out over the weekend that players across multiple leagues have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Boston Bruins had a player test positive for COVID-19 during their testing prior to Phase 2 of the return to play protocol.
However, the player has tested negative on two additional tests and it appears to be the result of a false positive. pic.twitter.com/1sej7H3MRA

Several #Cowboys players & several #Texans players have tested positive for COVID-19 recently, sources tell me & @TomPelissero. None of the players are believed to have been in their team facilities. The teams followed proper health protocols.

Safety Over Profit
The main focus should be on people’s safety. Not just the players, but every single person the athlete come in contact with. It doesn’t make sense to risk hundreds of thousands of lives for money. Maybe it’s because I’m not an owner and don’t see the flow charts of profit and loss.
Athletes being up in arms about conditions and negotiations shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Imagine being asked to move halfway across the country to play a game for a reduced amount of money and not be around your family for the entire season. You’re in a little bubble with no room to live your life in a way that’s even close to normal. What about that sounds worth it?
A Lot To Lose
I have a lot to lose with sports not returning. My financial security goes out the window. With the lack of advertisers willing to pay for a slot on my podcast, I have to find new ways to make ends meet. The views are down all around because people don’t want to hear negative news when it comes to their favorite team.
Athletes are people too. Just because they’re living their dream with a fat bank account doesn’t mean they can’t feel a certain way when it comes to their working conditions. Have a little compassion. I promise it won’t hurt.
