Moments ago, the Boston Bruins released a statement on postseason injuries. Three Bruins – Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak, and Brad Marchand – underwent surgery to fix their injuries.
Charlie McAvoy
Luckily for the Bruins, McAvoy will be back in the lineup for the beginning of the season. He underwent a right knee arthroscopy on September 8th at Massachusetts General Hospital. McAvoy remains a critical piece for the Bruins defensive zone; especially since Zdeno Chara remains an unrestricted free agent at the moment.
David Pastrnak
Finally, we have an explanation as to why Pastrnak missed a few games in the playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes. Pastrnak underwent a right hip arthroscopy and labral repair on September 16th at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. At the moment, his rehabilitation has been going well. The Bruins said that Pastrnak will be fully recovered in five months. However, this means that Pastrnak will miss the first month of the season. Not only is this a shortened season, but missing a month means that he may not reach his personal accomplishments in terms of goals and points.
Brad Marchand
Marchand – another star of the Bergeron line went under the knife during the offseason to fix injuries. He underwent a sports hernia repair on September 14th at UMass Memorial Medical Center. He remains on track for a full recovery in four months, right in time for the beginning of the season.
Bruins Star Player Missing One Month
What does the mean for the Bergeron line with Pastrnak out for the beginning of the season? We may potentially see Anders Bjork filling Pastrnak’s spot. However, during the playoffs, Bjork was rather unimpressive. Would Coach Bruce Cassidy consider moving Ondrej Kase up to fill in for Pastrnak? Or will we see the dynamic duo – Krejci and Kase – on the same line again?
