Bruins Bounce Back Against Sabres

The Boston Bruins opened their season in the worst way possible Wednesday night, they received a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Washington Capitals. The Bruins were outplayed and beat to almost every puck, they looked unprepared to play and the Caps looked like a well oiled machine. Although it was one game doubts came creeping into the minds of many fans, however, the Bruins responded the next night by taking advantage of the Sabres in a 4-0 win.

After a poor performance on Wednesday the same doubts as last year surfaced “Their too young, they have no experience, no depth” and on and on. These claims really can’t be made one game into a season, hell last season the Bruins got off to a terrible start and then bounced back to finish second in the Atlantic. We all know it’s not how you start the season it’s how you finish.

The Bruins went back to work last night and took it to the Sabres, they’re offense was humming in the first period and they opened the scoring with goals by Chara and Donato. The Bruins received a much better defensive effort last night although there is still some improvements to be made. In the second Pastrnak got on the board after some beautiful passing by Marchand and Krejci and in the third Bergeron buried an empty netter to seal the win. Halak was stellar in net racking up 32 saves in his first shutout as a Bruin. He was tested only a few times but came up with the few big saves he needed.

It was only the Sabres that the Bruins beat but it appeared the team chemistry was coming along in that game. Against the Caps the Bruins looked lost they missed several defensive assignments and couldn’t find each other on the ice with passes. Some shuffling of the lines occurred last night and it seemed to work, Donato earned a shot on the second line wing and with a goal on the powerplay he’ll likely stay on that unit.

The Bruins are back in action Monday night for their home opener against the Ottawa Senators.
