Boston College Football Is Somewhat Good Again!

Ranked 14th in the coaches poll, 17th in the AP poll, and 22nd in the college football playoff but who cares!  Boston College football is ranked again!  Earlier in the year, BC made an extremely brief (one game) appearance in the AP Top 25 after their win against Wake Forest and followed that up with a loss to a winless Purdue team.  But this time around, they hope to stay in the top 25 for more than one game.  Safe to say that a small amount of people expected this coming in to the year for Boston College.

However; this time they have to take on an undefeated Clemson team who’s ranked second in the country.  A Clemson team who has one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NCAA in Trevor Lawrence and the top running back in Travis Ettiene.  But Boston College has some weapons of their own.  They boast the ACC’s second leading rusher in AJ Dillon and one of the conferences best defenses.

College Gameday is Headed to the Heights Yet Again…

This game which, as of right now, features the number 22 ranked team in the country, and the second ranked team.  It has so much intrigue that ESPN’s college football pregame show College Gameday will be making its third appearance at Chesnut Hill.  The two previous times Boston College hosted College Gameday were two Florida State/BC match-ups in which Florida State won both.

The show which runs from 9am-12pm eastern on ESPN actually has a pretty cool set up.  Check out a little bit as to what goes into setting up for College Gameday.

The last time College Gameday came to BC, they had former BC and New York Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich on the show right after his battle with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewings Sarcoma and on that show he announced that his cancer was completely gone and Herzlich returned to BC football the following season.

Clemson vs. Boston College, Who Wins?

Now on to the game.  The last time two ranked teams played at Boston College was back when 20th ranked BC beat 21st ranked, and then ACC opponent, Maryland 38-16 in 2006.  It’ll be only the 7th time in BC history where two ranked opponents will play at Alumni Stadium.  Boston College is 2-4 in the previous six games.

And the last time Clemson came to play Boston College under the lights?  Well take a journey back to 2016 when BC welcomed the Tigers for their annual red bandanna game and Clemson put on a lickin’.  They easily handled the Eagles 56-10 en route to a national championship that season.

So the latest installment of the battle for the O’ Rourke-McFadden Trophy takes place on Saturday Night on ABC at 8:00pm.  As much as I love my BC Eagles, I just don’t see them pulling this one out.  Although, last year they hung with Clemson in death valley, I think Clemson’s offense is just too much for BC to handle and they’ll have to pass more than they want to which limits AJ Dillon.  It’ll be close, but I’m taking Clemson to win in a high scoring shootout, 35-31.  Clemson will clinch the ACC Atlantic essentially and make it back to the college football playoff.
