UFC Fight Night Atlantic City: Kevin Lee misses weight and goes on to finish Edson Barboza

Many fighters have struggled to make weight in highly anticipated fights this year. In 2017 the UFC got bit by the injury bug. In 2018 not only does the UFC have to deal with the injury bug, but it also has to deal with multiple fighters missing weight. Dana White is unhappy!
UFC president Dana White said he’s had enough of fighters missing weight, and many fans agree with him. Missing weight happens, but when it happens this constantly something has to be done. Not only is it unprofessional, but it’s also driving fans away from the sport. In some cases it almost seems intentional. Mackenzie Dern missed weight by a whole 7 pounds, and it seemed like she just gave up on her weight cut. Dana White has took action this week and is aiming to get rid of the early morning weigh ins. So what does this mean?
Originally, Fighters had to attend two weigh-ins. The early morning weigh-ins where they actually weighed in, and the ceremonial weigh-ins to hype up the fights. Dana White is officially aiming to do away with the early morning weigh-ins, making the ceremonial weigh-ins the real deal. This will give fighters more time to cut weight, so there will be no excuse to miss weight. Hopefully this will help the other highly anticipated cards of 2018 stay intact. Fighters might have a love hate relationship with the new weigh in format. The bright side is you have more time to cut weight. On the negative side it gives you less time to rehydrate yourself.
We’ll see how it goes Friday night for the UFC 225 weigh-ins. Followed by UFC 225 Whittaker vs Romero 2 Saturday night.
