The date is February 13, 2018. The NFL season is officially over. NHL and NBA seasons are just past the halfway mark and the playoffs are only roughly 2 months away. The Bruins have played 54 games posting a record of 34-12-8 and are only 3 points away from the conference leading Lightning with 2 games in hand. Yes you read that correctly. The Bruins are the NHL’s hottest team right now and you are silly if you think otherwise.
If you watched this team in the beginning of the year, you would have thought it was going to be a long year for the black and gold. It would have been an understandable thought, the Bruins had a lot of young players that needed to get acclimated to the game. The growing pains were going to be tough, and the first two months of the season were very hard to watch. Once the calendar turned over to December something happened, the veterans and the rugrats began clicking, the four lines began rolling perfectly. The Bruins went on an 18 point streak before losing in regulation just about two weeks ago. Maybe they found Michael’s secret stuff, or started eating their Wheaties, but whatever it is they show no signs of slowing down.
If the Bruins keep this up then I love their chances of lifting the Cup. All their lines are playing well and producing effectively, Tuukka Rask is playing phenomenal, a complete turnaround from the beginning of the season. Patrice Bergeron is making his case for the Hart trophy, Chara has found his second wind, and the rugrats continue to impress. The Bruins may not get as much love as the Celtics but don’t forget about them Boston, because come June we might be having a parade for them.
