I remember when I read the Seth Wickersham story, I thought to myself eh, yeah I’m sure some of this is true. But I think it’s a little blown out of proportion. No way Jimmy Garoppollo, was going to be the guy to end this empire they have built over the past 17 years. They would get together, and would come up with a way that they could end things on their own terms. kind of ride off into the sunset.
Then I started to actually think a little. Once the dust settles on their current playoff run, which I expect to end with at least a trip to the Superbowl. The Pats are gonna lose maybe three of the assistant coaches. With reports saying, Josh McDaniel to the Colts, Matt Patricia heading to the Lions, And defensive coordinator in waiting Brian Flores being seriously thought about for the Cardinals head coaching gig. Bill is gonna be 66 at the start of next season. And Tom Brady will be 41 in August.
I thought about all of that, and started thinking. Will Bill want to start over, with basically a whole new staff? Can he pick another QB to one day supplant Tom Brady? Will they miss Josh and Matt all that much? I don’t know about you guys, but that a lot of questions a 66-year-old coach and 41-year-old quarterback to answer.
I will say this though, this isn’t going to affect the Pats this season or maybe even next season. I still think they are going to win the Superbowl this season, and will compete for another one next season. But this absolutely affects them past next season, and anyone who denies this is just not being real with how this thing is gonna end.
Like I said earlier, I always hoped they would ride off into the sunset together. Maybe hoist their seventh championship together and the coach in waiting, QB in waiting were ready to take the reins. But with no succession plan at QB in place anymore, A mass exodus of coaches leaving the building after this season. An aging coach and QB who nobody would debate have nothing left to prove. I now believe this dynasty like so many before it, will come crashing down right before our eyes.
