It was a small week for the Boston Celtics as they only played 2 games this. First up was when they hosted the Brooklyn Nets. It was a game that was closer than it should have been but the Celtics squeaked out the win 108—105. Kyrie Irving led the way with 28 points and 8 assists for Boston. Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier combined for 29 points off the bench.
But getting to the big game of the week, the Celtics hosted arch rival LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, the elephant in the room going into this game was former Celtic star Isaiah Thomas. He made his season debut the night before but because the Cavs were playing on a back to back, he was held out as a precaution. He was going to get a video montage before the game, but requested that they held it off until he plays. This drew some backlash but Thomas said it was no disrespect to the organization or the fans. And luckily, the Celtics fans gave him a huge cheer when he was showed on the big screen during the 1st quarter. For the record, I am team Isaiah till I die (see my video that got 24,000 retweets).
But we had a game to play and the Celtics absolutely came to play. From the tip, the Celtics were in control and they won the game 102—88. Defense and bench play were the keys to Boston winning as Kyrie was held to just 11 points. Terry Rozier surprisingly led the way 20 points and Marcus Smart added another 15. After the game Thomas, met up with a few of his ex-teammates, as well as the man he was traded for in Kyrie Irving. It was an emotional night but it’s one we had to have. Godspeed IT.
Anyway a few positive notes on the C’s to take you into the weekend. Rookie sensation Jayson Tatum was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December. It’s truly crazy but he’s just 19 years old. The final note is that Terry Rozier has been playing out of his mind over the last 5 games. He’s averaging 15.6 points per game while shooting 60% from the floor and 56% from behind the arch. Everything is turning up green.
