The Clover Report: Week Ten

For the first game of the week, the Celtics hosted Utah Jazz where Gordon Hayward made a cameo appearance. He spoke to the Utah media for the first time since signing with the Celtics and gave an update on his injury, saying that he still has not ruled out potentially coming back this season. As for the game itself, it wasn’t pretty for the Celtics as they lost 107—95. After getting off to a good start, the Celtics couldn’t find any offense from anyone other than Kyrie Irving. What made this even more frustrating was that Rudy Gobert hardly played and they still handled the Celtics.

The Celtics then went on the road to take on the Memphis Grizzlies where they found there stride again. After getting to a 31—12 start in the 1st quarter, the Celtics closed out the game and won 102—93. Kyrie led the way with 20 points and Jayson Tatum put up 19 points and 9 rebounds. Next up the Celtics then traveled to Indiana where they had one of the craziest games of the year. After leading for 98% percent of the game, the Celtics blew the lead in the final minutes to the Pacers. Victor Oladipo went off as he scored 38 points for the Pacers and hit a few clutch shots. But down by one, Terry Rozier stole the ball and dunked in the game winner as the Celtics escaped with the 112—111 win. You can go check out the crazy final minutes below in the video.

In the final game of the week, the Celtics hosted the Miami Heat where Kelly Olynyk made his return to the Garden. Despite the Heat being severally undermanned, the Heat stole the game 90—89 from the Boston Celtics. In his return to the Garden, Olynyk scored a career high 32 points on 12-15 shooting. This was one of the worst losses of the year for the Celtics the Heat were without their 3 best players. Overall, the Celtics are struggling right now, there’s no two ways about it. They have lost 4 out of 8 and have done it to bad teams. This is the first adversity this team has faced since the Hayward injury so it will be interesting to see where they go from here.
