The Clover Report: Week Two

It was a rough first week to say the least for the Boston Celtics. They lost opening night, the home opener, and Gordon Hayward for the year in one week. Not exactly the best way to start a season. But nothing stops time so the season continues on. The Celtics traveled to Philadelphia to take on division rival 76ers. Coming in 0-2, the Celtics were looking to get off the snide and get their first win.

The Celtics didn’t get off a great start as they trailed Philly 50—46 after the 1st half. But Boston came to play in the 4th quarter and won 102—92. This was an impressive win due to the fact that Marcus Smart missed the game due to an ankle injury (along with Marcus Morris). While many Celtics struggled with their shot, Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier were the stand outs. Irving led the team with 21 points and Rozier came off the bench with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Al Horford didn’t have a great offensively but did keep Joel Embiid in check as he only scored 11 points for the 76ers.

The Celtics then had 3 days off and only had one more game this week. That would be at home against the New York Knicks. This was by far the best game the Celtics played as they dominated from the tip in the 110—89 win. This game was all about the Celtics’ young guns; Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown (who turned 21 that same day). Tatum had his 1st 20 point game (finished with 22) and hit four 3’s. Brown shot 9 of 16 from the floor and scored 23 points. They became the first Celtics duo ever to score 20+ points at 21 years or younger in the same game in team history. That’s pretty crazy considering the history of this team.

So after a pretty rough first week, the Celtics had a nice bounce back week as they moved to 2—2. They will have 4 games coming up this week and will be expected to see the return Marcus Morris and Marcus Smart return. So we’ll have plenty to report next week.
