With the fantastic news we learned today about Pablo Sandoval being DFA’d the last thing we need to do is ruin this awesome buzz. The exact thing that would do that is trading for Todd Frazier. He is batting .213 with 16 homers and 44 RBI’s.
Think about it just for a minute, Panda left with 99 at-bats this season hit 4 home runs and had 12 RBI’s. Frazier has 268 at bats so if you play it out to Sandoval having about 200 more at-bats you can put that around about 12 home runs and 36 RBI’s.
That is pretty close numbers granted its all predicting but it still does not take away how close these numbers could have been. Yes, Frazier is the better player and would much rather have him over Sandoval and thats not even a question. My thoughts are that if it requires giving up more prospects to get him then it is not even close to worth it.
Obviously, if the asking price is relatively low then yes take the chance but is he really worth giving up more prospects especially with Devers getting promoted to Triple-A and will without a doubt be called up come September, if not sooner. Go get a guy like Jed Lowrie who is just an all around solid player.
