The Phillies Ink David Robertson: Are They Quietly Becoming A Powerhouse?

The Phillies made another move to improve their team heading into the 2019 season by adding David Robertson yesterday. Robertson has a career 2.88 ERA with 137 saves in his career all while not being the main closer for the Yankees and a closer on a rebuilding White Sox team.

Robertson is a legit closer and one that flew under the radar due to the loaded free agent reliever market this offseason. Add this move on to the move of adding Andrew McCutchen and acquiring Jean Segura makes it a pretty busy offseason for the Phillies thus far.

The Phillies were two games below the .500 mark to end the year finishing with a record of 80 wins and 82 losses finishing 10 games back in the division. These moves alone could add a lot of potential, never mind the possibility of them still Manny Machado or Bryce Harper.

The Phillies could make a legit run for the division in 2019. It will be good to see the Phillies get back to their winning ways and should be a fun season for them!

P.S. David Robertson negotiated that contract by himself saving him more than $1 million dollars. More players should do that! Love to see it.
